BACKObama's new puppy

Sunday, 19 april 2009

The Obama family are getting used to sharing the White House with a new arrival - pet dog Bo.

President Obama promised his daughters Malia and Sasha that they'd be getting a puppy on the night he won the election back in November 2008. Now, five months on, the first family have chosen the first pooch and have released pictures of Bo the puppy.

He's six months old and is a Portuguese water dog, which is a breed that doesn't shed any hair. That's important because Malia Obama has problems with allergies that could be made worse by other breeds. The choice of dog has been a huge news story in America, and even on Friday President Obama was being asked about it.

Some websites were reporting the Obamas had picked the dog before it was officially announced and when a journalist asked the president about it he said: "Oh, man, now, that's top secret."
